The Husband and Wife Law Team Scholarship was founded in 2016 by attorneys and founders of the Husband and Wife Law Team, Michael and Lacey Raftery. As founders of their law firm, they have seen first-hand the importance of education for success in all endeavors. They are proud to offer a scholarship to help empower those with great passion for success . It is their hope that this scholarship will help students further their education, and ultimately reach their goals.
The Husband and Wife Law Team has seen how a good education can be the launch pad for a bright future. Students with at least one additional year of college have an excellent chance at achievement. They are proud to support students who strive for excellence, and wish to make a difference in the world. The husband and wife team believes that helping others is a privilege, and is proud to offer that help.

Eligibility Requirements

The Husband and Wife Law Team Scholarship is available to any high school student, college student, law student, or graduate student of any major and any level from the United States and Canada. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

How to Apply

To begin, applicants will submit The Husband and Wife Law Team Scholarship application form. Responses for the following questions are required: 1. Full legal name 2. Date of Birth 3. Phone number 4. Address 5. Email 6. Year of expected graduation 7. Current GPA, with proof required 8. School Name 9. School Address 10. School Phone Number 11. Intended Major 12. Intended College Degree 13. College Start Date 14. At long last, answer, "How did you hear about this scholarship award?" Step one complete. All applicants are required to submit an unofficial copy of their transcript, identifying their GPA. No other application materials will be considered without proof of GPA. Applicants who are chosen as semi-finalists will also be required to submit an official transcript by the deadline to be eligible for the award. The semi-finalists will then be required to submit an original 500 – 800 word scholarship essay. The essay will comprise one third of the scholarship process. The formalities put aside, applicants may write about anything they feel helps promote facial fairness in the legal field. Good scholarship writing includes clear goals with supporting evidence and proof you are already pursuing them. The essay is designed to demonstrate your passion for practicing law and why you are deserving of the Husband and Wife Law Team Scholarship. There are a few other formalities: Grammar and spelling must be correct. Failure to adhere to these rules reduces your score. Run an automatic spell check and grammar check to catch errors. Keep your response between 500 and 800 words. Stick to the deadline. Late applications are automatically disqualified. It is important to stay positive throughout. Avoid being negative or using profanity. Remember, you are selling yourself as a candidate for the scholarship. Double and triple check everything. Errors on your transcript or application make you appear careless. Don’t be a careless candidate – do it right the first time. Send your application, transcripts, and essay to [email protected]. Awards and Notification Process

Completed applications will be reviewed by The Husband and Wife Law Team attorney since they understand every step in the process in order to make the best decision for disbursing the scholarship funds. Finalists for an award will be contacted for further information to be gathered prior to an official final decision. Candidates are chosen based on their personal statement. Applicants must show an honest financial need to fund the costs of education at their chosen school. Applicants whose short essay most closely matches the mission of The Husband and Wife Law Team will be selected as the award recipients. Scholarship awards are announced and awarded before July 30th of each year.

Scholarship Perks

Our hope with this scholarship was to provide financial assistance to a qualified applicant who is currently pursuing a degree in law, business, psychology, or criminal justice. The attorney scholarship is awarded for each semester that we may have qualified applicants . The goal would be to also provide mentorship as the applicant goes through school. Other ways we could help would be to provide a stipend for books or help the applicant in some way get involved in extracurricular activities that could help them in their field of study.

Past Scholarship Recipients

Marie Zamor, who is currently enrolled at Nova Southeastern University, interested in pursuing a career in law. Marie has also volunteered at United We Dream.
Katari Davis, who is currently enrolled at the University of Connecticut School of Law. Katari has volunteered for the Center for Children’s Advocacy.
Jaime Emerson, who is currently enrolled at Arizona State University. Jaime has volunteered for the American Red Cross and is a member of Sister’s Circle, a mentoring program for at-risk high school girls.
Jaime Isbell, who is currently enrolled at Bellevue University and is interesting in pursuing a career in criminal justice. Jaime has volunteered at the International Justice Mission.
Princess Johnson, who is currently enrolled at Grand Canyon University and who is also seeking a career in law. Princess also volunteers at the Tumbleweed Center for Youth.
Leticia Hamm, who is currently enrolled at the University of Arizona College of Law. Leticia is interested in working for the ACLU or Department of Justice and also volunteers for the ACLU.
Olympia Coyer, who is currently enrolled at New England law. Olympia is also a member of the black law students association and volunteers for Wokie Naru, a nonprofit organization that provides professional business clothing to women in need.
Marvis Mugisha, who is currently enrolled at the Chapman University School of Law. Marvis is also interested in working in an area of law where she can help children in need.

Can I apply for the scholarship even though I don’t have a 3.0 GPA?
You must meet one of our minimum eligibility requirements to apply for the scholarship. This ensures that all applicants are considered equally and fairly.
Insufficient Documentation Is Not Acceptable
Do I really have to send in the required documents to be considered for the scholarship?
The documents we ask for ensure your eligibility. This is an honest system; if you give us information that turns out to be inaccurate, we will cancel your scholarship without notice .
Scholarship Amount Can Change
Can I get $2,500 even if more than one law firm donates this amount to the husband and wife law team scholarship?
We may increase the amount of the scholarship granted depending on the total donation amount we receive. If you are selected as the recipient of the scholarship, we will notify you of the exact amount.
Don’t Send Personal Information
What if I didn’t include my social security number and banking information?
We do not require any private information from applicants. Do not send us your social security number, bank account, or credit card information.
